About Me

Ebony with Body Matters Psychotherapy

My name is Ebony. I have over 15 years of experience in the field of social work and over a decade of experience in community mental health and addictions treatment and private practice. I specialize in the treatment of shock and developmental trauma and have been trained in cognitive and somatically-oriented therapeutic modalities. I have worked with individuals, couples, and families facing a variety of issues such as interpersonal challenges, grief, chronic pain, trauma, and life-stress. I have also provided counselling services to individuals struggling with formally diagnosed mental health disorders such as depression, anxiety, and post traumatic stress disorder. I enjoy working with individuals or couples that identify as queer, or that occupy any space along the broad continuums of sexual orientation and gender identity.

I work in a non-cathartic way that seeks to bring non-intrusive curiosity and awareness to present experience.

I was born and raised in the mountains of British Columbia, Canada. I have resided in British Columbia, Nunavut, and most recently in Whitehorse, Yukon Territory. I am deeply grateful to live, work, and play in Whitehorse, on the traditional territories of the Kwanlin Dün First Nation and the Ta’an Kwäch’än Council. I have a deep affinity for nature and connection with the land. I have found it a helpful resource in connecting with myself and my spirit. I enjoy reading, hiking, cross country skiing, running, and yoga.

I believe in the power of connection and trust in the innate healing capacity of each individual. I believe that as we access the most authentic parts of ourselves with curiosity and love, true healing happens naturally.
